Packet General’s Data Security Appliances Are Now Available as Virtual Appliances

Enabling Customers To Achieve Compliance With Ease In Virtual Environments

Baldwin, NY, - October 26, 2010 - Packet General, the leading provider of data security and compliance solutions for MySQL and flat files, today announced the availability of two new virtual appliances. The newly announced appliances are based on proven technology that powers Packet General hardware solutions and has helped many tier-1 merchants to achieve compliance with the payment card industry’s data security mandates.

Organizations are under increasing pressure to protect all kinds of data in order to comply with industry mandates like PCI DSS and government regulations like HIPPA/HITECH. On one hand, the loss of cardholders information can irreparably damage consumer’s trust in the brand and adversely impacts stakeholders, but the loss of patient record information can lead to civil and criminal penalties.

“Our virtual appliance offerings give our customers the ability to be more flexible while remaining compliant,” said Raj Sharma, CEO, Packet General. “Virtualization has lots of merits. However, when it comes to security, the providers of virtualized environments rely on slogan - “trust me”. Well, that’s not good enough for many organizations. Packet General’s secure application appliances provide the much needed assurance. Our customers know that their data is secure because their data gets encrypted before it hits the disk and only they control the encryption key while their providers manage the host machines.”

Packet General appliances are secure by design. The privileged insider is not allowed to view/alter the sensitive information. Any attempt to do so results in generation of a real-time alert.

PCI-GENERAL™ virtual appliance is a complete, secure, deployable and maintainable MySQL database appliance that resides in a secure operating environment and has been designed to protect the MySQL data. Whereas File-GENERAL™ virtual appliance is a secure file repository that encrypts flat files at inception. Both appliances prevent loss or exposure of regulated data and allow automation of business processes for sustainable compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security mandates and the HIPPA/HITECH Act. Transparent data encryption, protection against a malicious "root" user, lifetime key management are some of the main features of these solutions.

Packet General's CEO to Speak at CSO/CIO Security Conference in Malta

Baldwin, New York - April 14, 2010 - Raj Sharma, CEO, Packet General, will speak at an invitation only gathering of executives from banking and gaming industries about security and compliance ramifications of deploying  mission-critical applications on commercial-off-the-shelf-servers (COTS) on Wednesday, April 14, 2010. The talk will highlight how such use lowers the enterprise’s overall security posture while increasing the cost of compliance.

Organizations are required to protect the private data of their customers and employees in order to comply with various information-disclosure laws and Payment Card Industry Data Security (PCI DSS) mandates. The fallout from a data-security breach can be very disruptive and possibly even devastating. The loss of data irreparably damages consumer’s trust in the brand and adversely impacts stakeholders. The consequences of non-compliance are becoming increasingly costly. Of course, the fear of non-compliance fines should not be the only concern. If personal data were disclosed, the organization has to notify the people affected, resulting in additional financial losses and even legal exposure.

However, most small businesses simply cannot afford the staff and time necessary to implement the security and compliance requirements. Ready to deploy secure appliances can  enable organizations to achieve compliance with ease while shortening audit engagements.

Packet General Launches Data Security and PCI Compliance (PCI-DSS) Solution for MySQL® For The U.S. Market

Baldwin, New York – September 23, 2008 – Packet General Networks, provider of innovative data security solutions, announced that a major credit card brand has selected Packet General's solution to build a PCI DSS compliant infrastructure facing the Internet. Packet General is also announcing general availability of its two new appliances – PCI-GENERAL™ and Encryption-GENERAL™ for MySQL® for users who are looking to comply with the PCI DSS mandates.

Organizations struggle to achieve data security. Neither the operating system vendor, nor the application vendor takes on the responsibility of securing the data that they help generate and house. The onus of data security and regulatory compliance falls squarely on the shoulders of the customer. With this in mind, Packet General has created a family of Secure Server Appliances™ (SSA™) that protect application data and enable customers to comply with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard. As of June 30, 2008, organizations are required to comply with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS). An easy to deploy and transparent compliance solution is needed.

“Customers should never be faced with making a choice between keeping their mission-critical application server up or plugging the latest security hole,” said Raj Sharma, CEO of Packet General. “We are focused on changing the application data security paradigm through the introduction of a new type of a secure server appliance that is secure by design. PCI-GENERAL™ for MySQL validates our new approach to application data security.” Packet General data security features that enable PCI compliance: · Protection against "Privileged User" ·

  • Transparent commercial-grade application data encryption (AES-256)
  • FIPS-140 compliant Key Management
  • Cryptographically signed logs
  • Encrypted backups
  • Non-stop security update service

"How to secure MySQL data and achieve PCI compliance"

Baldwin, New York - Thursday, September 11, 2008 - Organizations cannot afford the corporate exposure resulting from data compromises. Besides adverse financial impact due to loss of data stored in a MySQL server, non-compliance with data protection regulations can have legal repercussions, both civil and criminal: PCI mandates, which are now compulsory as of June 30, 2008, have provisions for fines of up to $500,000 and/or revocation of operating credentials of non-complying merchants.

More than 3/4 of states in the U.S. have have enacted information disclosure laws, forcing organizations to publicly disclose data breaches of their *unencrypted* data. A data breach is almost always followed by system downtime to correct and repair the problems that allowed the breach to happen, resulting in lost revenue and additional operational expenses. Loss of public trust and a tarnished corporate image. While legislation and regulations focus on data concerning other parties, the compromised data may actually be the enterprise's intellectual property, trade secrets, financial records, classified information, or other sensitive material, resulting in immediate and large-scale losses to the future of the enterprise. Parties whose data were disclosed following a security incident may resort to litigation in an effort to recover damages.

Join us for an interactive web seminar to learn how to increase your security posture for your MySQL installations, and achieve compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI-DSS). During this seminar a distinguished panel of security and compliance experts along with MySQL customers will share their perspective on: What is PCI-DSS? How to secure MySQL installations before a PCI compliance audit -a customer prespective? How to transparently encrypt MySQL data and properly manage encryption keys?
