Packet GENERAL, the industry leader in application data security, is about to change the enterprise application delivery, deployment and maintenance models with its novel approach, Security-GENERAL, which provides instant data security and regulatory compliance. Changing the current application delivery model: Enterprise-level applications are built and delivered so they can work on top of many different operating systems. Application vendors expend a great amount of resources in order to maintain versions of their applications for different operating systems. As more and more systems need to be supported, the associated support costs increase and are eventually passed on to the customer. The customer, in turn, has to contend with two classes of vendors, namely, the application vendor and the operating system vendor, with no single vendor responsible for the security of such a setup. Changing the current application deployment model: Deploying applications on an enterprise-wide scale introduces problems arising from the sheer magnitude of the task. The underlying operating system may be at different version levels on different servers, introducing compatibility and security problems. Moreover, the onus of securing the application data in order to comply with various data regulations falls squarely on the shoulders of the customer, incurring additional expense and introducing complexity, which is always the enemy of security. Changing the current system update model: Application vendors, as well as operating system vendors, periodically release bug fixes and updates for their products. Installing these fixes, however, is a task performed by the customers. This is not an easy task, as there may be incompatibilities between operating system patch levels and application patch levels, or between levels of interacting applications. At times, even security patches may not be applied out of fear of causing problems to a business-critical application; for example, nine months after Microsoft released the Windows XP Service Pack 2, over half of business customers had not applied it for fear of breaking something. Such fears create vulnerable operating environments, which are at odds with the data security requirements. Packet GENERAL is about to change the enterprise application delivery, deployment and management model:
Packet GENERAL with its new invention, the Secure Server Appliance™ (SSA™), enables the customers to be relieved from the burden of building and maintaining their own application environment, with its concomitant security problems and cost overheads. The Secure Server Appliance™ delivers a complete, secure, deployable and maintainable application stack residing in a secure operating environment that has been designed to protect the application data. The customers are freed from having to worry about configuring the operating system or choosing which patches to apply, and can concentrate on running their business. The concept of the SSA enables a single vendor to be responsible to providing just the relevant updates that come from the various OS and application vendors, and ensure the continued smooth operation of the application environment. In essence, the cost of keeping the application stack up-to-date, which up to now has been borne by each individual customer, is now factored out and incurred once by the SSA vendor, who can pass these savings on to the customers. Security-GENERAL™, the industry’s first Secure Server Appliance™, replaces a general-purpose server running a set of applications on top of an 'off-the-shelf' operating system. Security-GENERAL™ bundles a mission-critical application with a hardened operating environment to provide data security for both “live data” and “data at rest”. Security-GENERAL is offered as a “soft” appliance, which can be installed on standard, 32- or 64-bit, Intel® and AMD® hardware.
